Laborie

With the arrival of summer, and holidays just around the corner, what better way to celebrate than with good friends, incredible food and the perfect wines to suit the two. Where better than at home?
It was with this in mind that I eagerly accepted the challenge from Laborie Wines to host a lunch for 5 of my favourite foodie friends. The day dawned without a breath of wind so I decided to host outside on my balcony. With iconic views of our beloved Table Mountain, and in the other direction as far as the eye can see, it was the perfect backdrop to our ladies afternoon. We sipped on our wines, chatted up a storm and enjoyed our food without a second thought of our ‘summer bodies’. The mood of the day was definitely indulgence and we didn’t hold back.
To begin, with the heat of the day, an ice cold glass of the Laborie MCC brut. There is something quite special about enjoying a glass of bubbles and the way it immediately introduces a celebration to any event. Today was no different. With our glasses full to the brim with MCC, we enjoyed a starter of Basil Panna cotta with exotic tomatoes, bocconcini mozzarella and a smoked tomato granita.

Next out of the ice bucket was the Laborie Chenin blanc. A fruit forward wine with a soft finish, it was the perfect partner to the Creamy Salmon and Dill fettuccine with Vodka and lemon zest that I served for our mains. Salmon is without a doubt my favourite summer dish and because today was about indulging, pasta was the answer. Even though it was a cheat day, no dish is complete without a salad. To go with the main course, a Wild rocket, roasted sweet potato and Parmigiano salad and a salted honey dressing.

As the sun started to dip, we sat back and relaxed between the courses. The conversation and wine both flowed as we enjoyed the afternoon and each other’s company.
The final touch to a girl’s lunch is without a doubt the guilty pleasure of a cheese board. So to accompany the Laborie Cabernet-Merlot Red blend, a selection of cheeses served with rustic melba toast, sweet potato crisps and seasonal fruit.

It was an afternoon to remember, with the perfect balance of all good things. Food, wine and friendship.
