It is the perfect summer lunch spot, with beautifully appointed outside seating, views for days and a new lunch menu to delight the fussiest of foodies. Throw in an assortment of chilled Haute Cabrière wines ready to savour alongside the carefully curated menu, where else in the world would you rather be?
Picturesque Franschhoek is the home of this beautiful family run estate. Patriarch, Achim Von Arnim responsible for putting this piece of paradise on the map. Here you will find the region’s very first MCC- so good it inspired neighbouring estates to produce and now has an official Cap Classique route (Heads up to the all the bubbles drinkers out there- worth the visit!)
Fact: The iconic MCC is called Pierre Jourdan and was named after the farm’s original owner, a French Huguenot. Pierre christened the farm, which dates back to 1694, for his hometown Cabrière.
Achim did it again in 2011 with another South African first, an Unwooded Pinot Noir. This being one of my favourite wines to pair with the summer menu main courses, given its versatility and elegance. If you aren’t a red wine drinker, I recommend the Chardonnay reserve.
Guests can select the tasting menu, paired with wine, or opt for the a la Carte menu. Given the heat of the day, we went with the a la Carte. Carefully curated by Chefs Nic van Wyk and Westley Muller, with the support of their incredible sous chefs, this menu allows guests to experience as many or as few courses as they choose. All dishes are prepared to order, using fresh, seasonal and where possible, locally sourced ingredients from the Franschhoek Valley.
